The inspiration for our name and logo came from one of our heroes, Rosalind Franklin, who did not receive enough recognition during her lifetime for her role in the discovery of the structure of DNA. We borrowed her middle name, Elsie, for our app. The inspiration for our logo came from her famous “Photo 51,” which is regarded as the first clear photo of DNA’s structure, and helped lead to the discovery of the double helix.

Jo Becerra, MS, LCGC, Founder

Jo Becerra has worked as a genetic counselor since 2009 in both a clinical and laboratory setting. She was inspired to create Elsie when she had over 40 CEU certificates to submit for her recertification and then had to figure out which ones applied to her state license just a few months later. As a working mother of two children and an energetic pup, she may still have trouble keeping track of her busy schedule, but staying licensed and certified is no longer a problem.

David Becerra, Founder

David is a software engineer with over 15 years experience. As Jo’s husband, he has witnessed the juggling act GCs have to do to maintain their credentials, and has decided to help put an end to the madness. To get away from the digital world, he enjoys playing chess, golf, and attempting to create the perfect cup of coffee.

Katherine Wahlen, Licensing Specialist

Coming from a compliance background, Katherine knows the headache of trying to comply with different state laws and requirements. Using her previous experience and her knack for streamlining processes and enhancing the user experience, she is committed to improving the licensure experience for every genetic counselor that turns to Elsie for their licensing needs.
