Renewing already?!
If you’ve recently been issued a genetic counseling license, you may be surprised at how soon it has to be renewed. Seeing that you need to renew in a couple months instead of a couple years can certainly come as a shock.
The reason why your initial license may be so short is due to the state’s renewal schedule. While some states base your renewal date off of when your license was first issued, many make everyone renew at the same time each year (or every other year). If you happen to be issued a license near the end of this renewal cycle, you may have the misfortune of having to renew much sooner than normal. Thankfully, some states reduce the fee for initial licenses that are going to be short. CEU requirements for renewals might be reduced or eliminated completely as well.
Some states make you renew on your birthday or in your birth month each year. Renewing our professional licenses is how all of us celebrate our birthdays now, right? How thoughtful of them!
